What can you expect
Over 20 years ago, "Oceano Gomera "was one of the first whale watching providers on La Gomera, which made it possible for tourists to watch the whales and dolphins off the coast of the second smallest Canary Island. Right from the start, emphasis was placed on treating the animals with respect ( respectful whale watching ). With Oceano Gomera you go out to sea in a small, typical Canarian fishing boat to observe the marine mammals. With a length of almost 11 meters and a width of 3.50 meters, this authentic and solid fishing boat offers space for a maximum of 10 people plus guide & captain . Thanks to the optimal construction of the boat for the Atlantic and the quiet motor, you can get closer to the animals without disturbing them. According to the provider, the sighting rates are almost 90% . Of course, Oceano drives Gomera under the "Barco Azul" - a seal that is awarded exclusively by the Canarian government and guarantees that the individual strictly adhere to the criteria for the protection of marine life and that the animals are not deliberately disturbed .
Oceano offers respectful whale watching without a lot of gimmicks, but with extremely motivated guides. Fresh ginger tea and cookies are served. In the summer months, they sometimes take a short swim break on the way back.
During the daily whale watching excursions (except on Sundays), the individual sighting dates are written down by the trained guides and then later forwarded to MEER eV. Oceano thus creates the basis for many scientific publications and statistics from MEER eV in Berlin.

In contrast to all other whale watching providers, Oceano has an external sales office outside the port facility. In addition, very informative themed and information evenings with a focus on "whales and dolphins" take place at regular intervals. You will also find the small but extremely interesting exhibition “Dolphins and whales - biodiversity in transition”, which is being organized in cooperation with MEER e. V. is operated. Prior registration is not required.

Marine biology guided whale watching tours
At irregular intervals, Oceano offers a whale watching tour with the well-known marine biologist Volker Boehlke. However, these are almost always fully booked, so don't get your hopes up too high (Only in German language!).
Especially for those who have already done several whale watching trips on La Gomera, this ecotour with Volker is highly recommended. But also children and nature lovers will get their chance on this marine biology guided whale watching excursion. Since this tour is in great demand, we recommend booking very early, especially during the winter months.
As with a normal tour, the trip to the dolphins takes 3-4 hours. However, Volker always has his underwater microphone, a lot of information material and expertise in his luggage - and if the situation allows it, then we eavesdrop on the marine mammals while hunting or chilling.

Oceano offers you the unique opportunity to rent a whole boat incl. expert whale watching guide for 3-4 hours. In this case you can take up to 10 people on board. However, you can also make just a private trip for two. The ideal gift for a birthday or if you just want to switch off for a few hours. Whether you make a swim stop in a secluded bay or go snorkeling during the trip, you can decide!!!
